Four years ago, I quit my life or perhaps I should say life quit me. I knew there had to be more to living than waiting for retirement and working in a world where enough is never enough. I dreamed of a life far more full and adventurous. Join me on this true life, awe inspiring, gutsy journey of globetrotting and discovering what it means to be brave, dream big, and think outside the box while I created my own definition of happiness.

My wake-up call came by the sudden, unexpected death of my fiancé and my only child going off to college.

Alone, devastated and yearning to be in nature, I called my dad and asked to borrow his camper to go on a road trip out West. He said no, but offered to go with me if we could go to Alaska. So we hit the road and met people living incredible lifestyles that blew my mind and
eyes wide open.

Knowing I couldn’t go back to my old life, I moved to a little seaside town in Florida. There I met Captain Pete and became crew on a 100 day dream trip of a lifetime, island hopping in the Caribbean. Never having sailed a day, the journey was filled with amazing tales of life on a boat, colorful fellow cruisers, Haitian refugees and an attempted murder. With my beloved Italy calling to me, I rented a room from a woman on the Internet, even though I didn’t know anyone there or speak the language. One day I took the train to Tuscany and met Giuseppe, a handsome, winemaker and spent the rest of the summer riding the hills of Chianti on a Vespa.

I learned to trust the laws of the universe, found courage I never knew I had and watched in sheer amazements as life, and all its miracles, unfolded right before my eyes.

This story is for all those who say “some day.” My hope is that it inspires you to take that leap of faith and starting living your dreams.
